How to detect, avoid and remove XP Police Antivirus, a fake antivirus

XP Police antivirus also known as XP Police is a fake antivirus developed by cheaters just to grab some money from you. Instead of being an antivirus, it is a virus in real. It attempts to deliberately trick you into thinking and believe that your system is badly infected by displaying security warnings and fake scan results like “Trojan Detected! A piece of malicious code was found in your system which can replicate itself if no action is taken. Click here to have your system cleaned by XP Police Antivirus.”. Once the program is loaded it will add an entry to your Windows registry so that the program starts automatically when you boot the computer and will show as if it has automatically scanned your computer and list a large amount of infections which actually do not exist in your system. The worst fact is that these infections, will keep in displaying and cannot be removed until you purchase the XP Police Antivirus.

How to detect XP Police Antivirus in your system

1. A fake Windows Security Centre will report that "Windows Security centre reports that 'XP Police Antivirus' is unable <sic>" and you should purchase it. This Window is totally fake and has got nothing with the Windows Security Centre.

2. Alerts pretending to be firewall alerts stating that your computer is sending hidden data to a remote computer.

3. When browsing the web your browser will randomly display a page stating that there was "Insecure Internet activity. Threat of virus attack". You will be prompted to either purchase XP Police Antivirus or continue and open the purchase page without waiting for your answer.

4. A small balloon type alert will appear stating that a Trojan was detected and you should purchase XP Police Antivirus to protect yourself. The text of this alert may appear like “Trojan Detected!, A piece of malicious code was found in your system which can replicate itself if no action is taken. Click here to have your system cleaned by XP Police Antivirus.”

5. A small and box type fake alert will appear above your Windows taskbar alerting you that your computer is sending unauthorized information to random IP addresses but the information will be false.

6. XP Police Antivirus will use large amount of your computer resources while performing the above actions which will cause your computer to work slower.

If you encounter any of the above alerts, they all should be ignored as they are displaying false information. In order remain safe from the cyber-crooks in future, Internet surfers should follow some simple safety measures like, download and install a reliable, legitimate antivirus/anti-spyware software, run frequent scans for threats, enable the Windows firewall or some 3rd party firewall solution, and always keep all programs up-to-date. The Windows OS should also be kept updated with its updates.
