How to Run Selective Startup in windows  using System Configuration- A Selective Startup option is provided in Windows, to turn services and startup programs on or off individually to see if the problem occurs on the next restart up. System Configuration is an advanced tool that can help identify problems that might prevent Windows from starting correctly. The program of which the check box are selected in the System Configuration, will run  on restart and the program of which the check box are not selected won't run.  If you can identify the program causing problems, you can check for updates or uninstal the program causing trouble. 


How to Run Selective Startup in windows 7 using System Configuration 


 

Follow  the process of elimination to identify the problem. To open System Configuration –

1.  Clicking the Start button  ,

2.  Click Control Panel,

3.  Click System and Security,

4.  Click Administrative Tools,

5. Double-click System Configuration.(You may be prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.)

6.  Click the General tab,

7.  Click Selective startup,

8.  Clear the Load system services check box.

9.  Click Load startup items check box.

10.Reselect the Load system services check box,

11.Click OK, and then click Restart.




 

In case after restarting you find that the Service has not been resolved, try one  of the following. (Some times you need to try  both) –

First you have to identify the Service which is causing the problem To identify the trouble causing Service –

1.  Click the Services tab,

2.  Click Disable all,

3.  Select the check box for the first Service listed,

4.  Restart the computer.( If the problem doesn't reoccur, It is clear that the trouble is not related to the first Service.

5.  Repeat the process one by one for all Services and in the end if you can not find the cause of trouble then the trouble is not with the Services.

If the problem is not related with the services it may be with the start up Items. To identify which startup item is causing the problem -
1.  Click the General tab,

2.  Select the Load startup items check box.

3.  Click the Startup tab,

4.  Click Disable all,

5.  Select the check box for the first startup item listed,

6.  Restart the computer.

7.  If the problem doesn't reoccur, then It is clear that the first startup item is not the cause of the problem.

Repeat the process one by one for all startup item and in the end if you can not find the cause of trouble then the trouble is not with the startup items.

If a problem is there it will certainly be revealed during the above process.
